Pantone’s Color of the Year 2014: Radiant Orchid

Purple (and all it’s different hues and tones) has been emerging as a home decor color trend since about 2006. It’s been a bumpy road, with diversions along the way, but with “Radiant Orchid” taking stage as Pantone’s Color of the Year for 2014, I think it’s safe to say it has arrived!

What I love about Radiant Orchid, and one of the reason I think it bridges the gap for home interiors better than, say, Heliotrope did a few years ago (another purple, but too dark and “disco” for many), is that this softly energetic color looks just gorgeous when combined with a wide range of enduring home decor staples: from beige, cream and even yellow, to all the cooler shades of blue and grey, and all varieties of natural wood from mahogany to the ubiquitous Ikea birch veneer.

One of my favourite ways to incorporate a trend color into my home without having to spring for all new furniture (though that would be fun!) is through the use of throw cushions and art. Fortunately CAP& Winn Devon has a wonderful selection of artwork that incorporates the latest color trends. I’ve curated a small selection of pieces from our Winter 20013 collection to inspire.

Our new website features some new and improved search functions making it even easier to find trend-forward images!

If you want to brows more art featuring purple as a dominant color, it’s now easier than ever to do that! On the left you’ll see some search options. Click on “color” and the options expand. Scroll down and you’ll see “purple” as an option. I recommend checking out pink as well, since Radiant Orchid fall somewhere between these two dominant categories.
